| Lubbock,
Texas: Birthplace of Buddy Holly, home of my first net-buddy Paul
(aka DrummerBoy) and his fiancee Kimberley (now his wife), and it's
really, really flat. No lissuns in Lubbock, but almost a
week of fun and frolic. |
 |
| First
item was hours and hours of talking, then we did some drinking and
playing pool at a local bar. Friday night we went out with bunch
of his friends, found some live music and more beer. Sat up until
05:00 talking and drinking Donni's rum. |
| Saturday night
was band practice - Paul's in a band called Broadway Frog.
The music was fabulous, and a lot of people turned out (mainly, I think,
to see this strange thing called an Australian, who had
come to visit Lubbock, of all places - was she mad?).
That's Paul on the right, playing guitar (a man of many talents). |
 |
| This the first
time I used my new (duty-free) camera at night, so my mastery of its
features is non-existent. Hence the ghost in this picture.
The Frogs practise in a do-it-yourself storage
facility, so what with the copious quantities of ale being consumed,
there were a few car-trips to service stations for "comfort
breaks." Ales included Cooper's (Australian) and Newcastle
Brown (British) - amazing!
|

|
| Paul and I
also found time to check out the Buddy Holly Museum (small but
nice). This is my (and Maria Elena's) favourite picture of him. |

From Lubbock to San Francisco, where the unmistakable
Bill Nyden took me to my hotel. I dumped Big Red the Huge Suitcase
on Wheels, and we took the cable car down to China Town, did a little
window shopping, and started the SFO Gathering in style at Broadway
Joe's. |
| More photos,
courtesy of Jim Klein and his amazing digital camera (and an arm of the
perfect length to take his own picture).
From the top, and people left to right:

| After
dinner the next night - at Cha Cha Cha, with Jim and Zelda - Yvonne
drove me home to my hotel via the scenic route - it was truly fabulous,
but the photos I took were truly awful. Such a waste!
